Liz & Tiernan

The overriding memory I have of my drive out to Liz and Tiernan on a cold Christmas morning was the epic blend of fog and the rising sun behind me. I managed to restrict myself to pulling over just twice to grab a few shots, but the day had not even begun and I already knew it was going to be a special one. Somewhere… buried in West Cork, not far from Bantry I arrived at Liz’s family home. Greated with smiles, offers of tea, coffee, and in a sign of the modern times, the choice of not one, not two, but three milk alternatives. How the humble Irish fry has moved with the times.
Liz was as radient as the sun beaming in from across the bay. I’ve probably said it before, but I always find the mornings at the brides home to be most fun. The energy in the build up before that walk down the aisle is just irreplaceable. Mom’s are busying themselves making sure everyone is looked after. Dad’s are leaving things to the last minute resulting, usually, in last minute tag cuttings. Flowergirls are looking on as their Aunt gets ready, occasionally sampling from the makeup cart. Then, the dress, followed by the sort of quiet as cars are packed and people start to filter out.
I didn’t think the morning could have been going any better until Liz’s brother arrived with the transport. Damn that’s a car! I knew I was against the clock to make to the church before them, even despite it being 5 minutes away and having a 5 minute headstart. I did though. Just. Good thing too as it was lovely to see Tiernan and Liz at the church, an electric mix of relief, stolen glances and giddiness. Both rings exchanged with a little bit of elbow grease, we then had the weather to contend with. On that front, I have to give MASSIVE kudos to them both. Now, I had known about their plan for the photos for a while and one thing that did not play nice with this was rain. All our weather apps were saying, we’ll get a 10-15 minute break in it. We just had to be ready. It was cold and wet but nothing was getting in between Liz and Tiernan, and that backdrop. Guys, ye did it. It was worth it. Can we do it again some time? :)
Liz and Tiernan, thank you thank you for first of all, having me share your days, but second of all, being the kind of couple that rocked the rain and did it with a smile. It was great to be your shadow for a day and I wish ye all the best in your lives together.
