Beast from the East

Songs will be written about this. Stories will be passed down
from generation to generation. Souveniers of Brennans bread preserved for all time at the back of the freezer will be taken out in rememberance each March. No one will ever forget the year it snowed a bit in March and the whole country lost the plot. In fairness, despite how ill equiped we are as a country to deal with even a few cm of snow, we were hit with several feet of the white stuff and had snow drifts up to 7ft high in places completely blocking roads. People were cut off from their communities, shops ran out of stock, Netflix viewing figures went through the roof. As a wedding photographer, my heart goes out to the couples who had to cancel their day or proceed with half the vendors and guests not able to show up.
For us though here in Castlemartyr, we were spared the worst. Sure the shops were low on stock (bread and milk were the first to go), and driving on the roads was a one way ticket to a ditch or wall, but schools were closed and life wasn’t so tough that we couldn’t enjoy a few snow days. The village was a winter wonderland, there were snowmen to build (carrot supplies also ran out so celery had to do for a nose), and Ruby got to experience ‘proper’ snow.
